All dogs' needs are different. Some like to lay around and enjoy the view, some like to jump off of walls and make you want to rip your hair out. These guidelines are just that, "guidelines". Based on your dog's activity level, age, and breed, we can determine the appropriate meal portion for your hound.
- All measurements are approximate and are meant for adult dogs.
- Ideally dogs needs about 2-4% of their body weight per day. The smaller the dog the greater % of food. The bigger the dog the smaller % of food.
- Food portions need to be adjusted according to exercise levels. If table scraps or snacks are given, the amount should be factored into the amount of food your dog needs daily.
- Increase the amount if your dog starts to get skinnier and decrease if you see your dog gaining weight.
One thing that is important to remember is that these portions may seem on the small side visually, but home made food for canines is MUCH more nutrient dense than most commercial and dry food diets. Your dog is in fact getting amazing nutrition and is staying properly full for a longer and happier amount of time.
